At Camp BizSmart, aspiring young entrepreneurs acquire essential skills needed to be successful in school, at home and in a future career, by solving actual business problems from the CEO’s of hot Silicon Valley companies. Over 10-days, students work in teams and are mentored by industry experts. On day 10, students present and defend their solutions before a panel of venture capital and angel investors.
Participants will take on a "Business Innovation Case" from award winning companies & inspiring founders to solve real-world-problems that can change the world!

Notpla has developed materials made out of seaweed and natural plants that can replace plastic with an ultra bio-degradable alternative! So far, they have invented a series of seaweed products that replace plastic in food packaging, cosmetics, pharmacy packaging, and more. However, to create their patented Notpla Seaweed material, a lot of the seaweed they harvest is wasted.
During the seaweed extraction process, 80% of the seaweed Notpla uses to make their materials goes to waste. One packaging supplier alone can generate 12 tonnes of waste per day! With this challenge of what to do with the waste, the material designers and scientists at Notpla have invented a new “Hard Material” that uses the waste material to make a hard plastic alternative.
Students will work in teams for the duration of the 10-day program. On day one, each student negotiates for an executive management Team Role. Each team is made up of 6-7 students.
Teams are chosen on the first day of the session, following a series of activities that give students the opportunity to learn the skills, capabilities, and personalities of their potential team members.
The CEO is the team facilitator. They are big picture thinkers that are good at what people are good at, and helping the team be the best they can be. A CEO is a strong leader and leads by example. They inspire, encourage, and facilitate the team to rise up and perform greatness. The CEO’s job is to keep track of team progress, step in and help any role when needed, and do whatever is needed to keep the big picture goal and team cohesiveness together.

The VOC represents the customer throughout the design process. Their job is to think about what the customer wants, how the customer might react to decisions the team is making, and be a strong voice that advocates for the most ideal customer experience. They will take the lead in conducting customer surveys and interviews to obtain valuable customer insights the team can implement throughout the process.

The CTO is responsible for all technical aspects of the product design and business pitch. They will research current technology trends and work with the team to implement strategic technology into the design. They are in charge of making sure the product works well.

The CFO is responsible for making sure your company earns more than it spends. They will take the lead in determining start-upcosts, cash flow strategy, and company valuation prelaunch valuation.

The CMO will analyze market size and determine who the customer is and why they will buy the product. They will lead the team in deciding how to reach their target market and what the main marketing message will be. They will do market research and create marketing campaigns and strategies to be disruptive in a highly competitive market.

The CSO will work with the team to figure out how & where to sell the product so customers can buy it at the “best price”. They will learn about what makes customers buy and they will create both a short term and long term sales strategy to get the company off the ground and growing.

The CIO’s job is to drive innovation in all areas of the business case! This means asking questions like, “what can we do to make our product better than anything else on the market?” “How can we use new technology and ideas to make our product more effective and interesting?” “Is there a new and better way to do this that we might not have thought of yet?” The CIO is a creative and big picture thinker that will take the lead in brainstorming and product design.

Will your idea make money?! Will someone buy it?! How much should you sell it for? Learn basic money managing skills through fun games like "Sneaker Shop" and create a pricing strategy and finance plan for your teams product.

Each team will have written a business plan and worked with an industrial designer to visualize their product. The final package is a digital portfolio piece and cool rendering for the students to remember their experience!

Camp BizSmart teaches much more than just technology skills. Our programs and team-based classrooms promote good attitudes as well, Herb Kelleher, the wildly successful CEO and founder of Southwest Airlines, once said his secret to success was “hiring for attitude and training for everything else.”
We are dedicated to teaching young people essential skills, and we’ve formed our learning model around it. Our programs emphasize leadership, collaborative teamwork, financial analysis, project management, negotiation, positive influence, a growth mindset and public speaking.
Aspiring tweenpreneurs and teenpreneurs choose their own teams and assume the roles of C-level executives, such as CEO and CFO. Each aspiring young entrepreneur will negotiate for the team role they are most interested in. We recommend that each individual have at least two roles in mind that they are ready to pitch to fellow teammates to demonstrate why they should have that role. The roles reflect company executive and management team responsibilities and provide a preview of what is required should they have that role in the future. The team CEO role has the responsibility as the project manager to help their team fulfill the objectives and requirements for competition. Each team then solves a product innovation business case problem given by the CEO and founder of a successful company. Teams design an innovative solution including a product concept and design, write a business plan and pitch, and present it to a group of real investors. It’s a challenging task, but students have a lot of fun together.
