Camp BizSmart Virtual

We are taking the best of our Classic Camp BizSmart entrepreneurship workshop for aspiring young entrepreneurs and going virtual.

For the first time ever, young idea makers and world shakers age 11-15, will be mentored and coached as they acquire valuable skills in a very interactive and engaging real world business skill setting. Through fun team activities, small teams will solve actual business problems from the CEOs of hot high-tech companies. Tweenpreneurs will consult with Silicon Valley industrial designers & receive a full color professional digital copy of their product concept design and pitch deck for their accomplishment portfolio. On day 10, students present and defend their solutions before a panel of industry experts and angel investors. Each participant will receive a custom BizSmart 2020 commemorative shirt as a member of the first ever class of “nextgen”, new world young entrepreneurs. The winning team from the competition will be awarded the honor of presenting to the Keiretsu Forum at the Angel Capital Expo in November 2020.

  1. Virtual live orientation July 17th 5:00-6:30PM
  2. CBS Virtual live workshop from 5:00-7:30PM daily, July 20-31 with Silicon Valley Staff
  3. Virtual live office hours with coaches 4-5PM each day. Office hours are optional. Students sign up for a time.
  4. Selected topic sessions will be available as recorded sessions should the team want to review.
  5. Virtual live competition July 31st 5–7PM. Professionals with real life experience at companies like JP Morgan, Amazon, Google, IBM and Tesla will jury the competition.
  6. Team pitches will be recorded and provided to the students for their accomplishment portfolio.
  7. The winning team is awarded the honor of pitching to an international audience of angel investors at the live Keiretsu Forum Angel Capital Expo in November. Parents of students on the winning team will be invited to tune in to the virtual event.

  4. All tools, worksheets and the BizSmart Design Thinking book will be downloadable on the first day so the teams can work at their own pace.
  5. Each team will have one on one live coaching session with their own industrial designer.

Content & Curriculum

  1. Each curriculum topic has been designed to:
    • Apply the benefits of project based learning
    • Feature real world examples
    • Bring successful professionals to the table as mentors and coaches
    • Use cases, activities and games to enhance the learning
    • Use multi-media with a variety of channels to deliver a memorable experience
    • Engage the students in the learning process through peer to peer learning, teamwork, breakouts and self-paced activities
  2. This is a product design and business plan competition. Specific topics and skills are those necessary to be successful in business and entrepreneurship & include:
    • Design thinking
    • Innovation
    • Leadership
    • Teamwork and collaboration
    • Negotiation
    • Selling
    • Marketing
    • Branding
    • Pricing
    • Cost of goods
    • Prototyping
    • Pitching and presenting
    • Time management
    • Interviewing
    • Competitive analysis
  3. Live sessions with BizSmart experienced curriculum directors on topics like design thinking, public speaking, marketing, leadership and team building will be recorded if students desire additional review on their own time.
  4. Additional recorded sessions by BizSmart professionals now working at famous brand companies on topics like innovation, selling and branding.
  5. Topics like brain storming will be supported by the latest virtual learning tools like Jamboard.
  6. All new business innovation cases (see the website for the three innovation cases).
  7. Out of the box, skill specific mini-cases with companies like Tesla, Spotify/Pandora, Poshmark and Flosports.
  8. Teams may schedule a live session, at the convenience of the team, with Peggy Gibbs, BizSmart Co-Founder & CFO the first week to get feedback on their product concept.
  9. Teams may schedule a live session, at the convenience of the team, with Dr. Mike Gibbs, BizSmart Co-Founder & CEO the second week to practice their pitch.

Outcomes for each Team/Student

  1. A business innovation idea landing page
  2. A product design book featuring:
    • the teams name
    • custom logo
    • full color, 3D product concept image
  3. A file with the teams product rendering ready to drop into the aspiring entrepreneurs college application portfolio
  4. A short video of each teams experience as a pioneer in teen virtual entrepreneurship product design and business plan competition world


Please note: Attendance is mandatory for all 10 days. This is a team-based competition, and everyone plays a vital role. Teams with absent members would find it extremely difficult to succeed.

Please Note: Sessions are 2.5 hours per weekday. When not in session or working with mentors, business teams work independently at their own pace. BizSmart staff will maintain scheduled “office hours” from 4-5pm PST, Monday-Friday, to consult with the teams should they so wish! Parents can be assured that their help is not needed to accomplish the team outcomes. Parents are always welcome to see what their students are doing online, but never required to do so.
