Brian Moran Bay Area musician inspired top students at the GEMS American Academy Outstanding American school in Dubai – GEMS Dubai American Academy (gemsaa-dubai.com) in the UAE with his music, and innovative thinking about how independent musicians can not only survive but thrive is this age of streaming. Brian challenged students attending a unique Silicon Valley virtual entrepreneurship workshop to practice “No box” thinking and brainstorm ways to create “Super Fans” dedicated to energizing the growth of terrific independent artists around the world.
The problem Brian gave business team of “Tweenpreneurs” to solve is that there are tens of thousands of independent musicians and bands around the world and 99.9% of them are NOT signed with a record label. They must make a major shift and stop trying to sell their music to people who already get it for free! Essentially each musician or band, is an independent & entrepreneurial small business. They must record, market, sell and distribute their own music directly to their fans and listeners. There is a ton of competition and the trick is developing a strategy to stand out by using all the available tools to compete, survive and thrive.
Equally at home in both jazz and latin guitar styles, Brian Moran is one of the Bay Area’s more versatile and accomplished musicians. Since graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1998, Brian has made the San Francisco Bay Area his home, where he maintains an active performance and teaching schedule.
Brian began his study of the guitar in 1987, beginning with rock guitar, and later focused exclusively on jazz for 10 years, in which time he led the Blowout Sextet, composing and performing original music and releasing the CD “The Supporting Theory” to rave reviews. Since 2001, Brian has dedicated much of his time to the study of 7 string jazz guitar, Spanish and Brazilian guitar, Brazilian cavaquinho and bandolim; and includes classical, Brazilian music, and flamenco in his diverse repertoire. He was nominated as a “Latin Jazz Guitarist of the Year” in 2011 by Latin Jazz Corner. He is a founding member of the Bay Area’s “Grupo Falso Baiano”, a project dedicated to Brazilian choro and samba music.
Brian appeared as part of Camp BizSmart’s innovative entrepreneur series. He not only presented a special webinar to students at the GEMS Academy in Dubai, he also challenged aspiring young entrepreneurs in the Camp BizSmart, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Silicon Valley Way workshop at the beginning of March. Brian was so popular, that he will give a “command performance” sharing his musicpreneur insights to challenge out of the box thinking, to a new group of young people in Dubai, on March 27 -April 3, 2021.
