The third Camp BizSmart Summer 2015 product design and business plan competition was held at Microsoft Silicon Valley on July 23, 2015. Student teams brought their best pitch hoping to capture the judges 1st place ranking. At the end of the day, the ZEPP sponsored team with the product innovation called, “Zapp Knee Brace” was awarded the top ranking of 1st place. Students who made up the team were: Angela Chu, CEO; Lucas Fonseca, CIO; Rohan Ashok, CTO; Jasmine Syu, CMO & CVOC; and Cesar Madrigal, CSO & CFO. Their product is a wearable knee brace with ZEPP Labs technology and electronic gel pads on the inside. The device uses EMS in a new way to help prevent knee ligament injuries.
Thanks to judges, Paul Witkay, CEO, Alliance of Chief Executives, Harry Motro, Serial Entrepreneur, Artist and Executive Counselor, Matt Cresci, Camp BizSmart 2009 Alum and 1st place winning team CEO working on his own start-up.
At the graduation, students were treated to words of wisdom from Annie Jie Xu, General Manager, Alibaba US who spoke eloquently about the global marketplace and the great opportunity that awaits those who will create the innovations and product to address customer needs. She also shared her thoughts on the important skills that are required to thrive and succeed, – determination and persistence, creativity and critical thinking, as well as the ability to work in teams and with people from all over the world.
The Camp BizSmart Entrepreneur of the Year, Tyler Okunski, was also named for the July 13-24 session during the Camp BizSmart showcase and graduation ceremony. Tyler is a great example of character, courage and citizenship, the values od Camp BizSmart. He also demonstrated zest, optimism and grit as he worked with his team and other students, staff and guest faculty throughout the two weeks. Tyler is pictured below with Aditya Reddy, one of the workshop directors for Santa Clara University.
Parents and friends of the students attending the Camp BizSmart Showcase and Awards ceremony enjoyed hearing the student pitches for each team solution. Students had the opportunity to select from three business cases to solve. ZEPP labs, CEO Jason Fass, Xicato CEO, Menko Deroos, and NeuroSky CEO, Stanley Yang worked with the founders of Camp BizSmart, Mike and Peggy Gibbs to challenge the students to create the next generation of future product solution that would add great value to the customer it was designed to help. Workshop Directors were Abinav Dev and Aditya Reddy.
