Taking great ideas to scale to do great things – with tenacious optimism!

Andy Kessler wrote for the Wall Street Journal the following about using scale to solve problems:” It’s time to stop doing the one-off two step and time to scale up.”  So what is scale? Mr. Kessler says, “It’s the concept of taking a small idea and finding ways to implement it for thousands, or millions, or even billions. Without scale, ideas are no more than hot air. Stop doing the one-off two-step. It’s time to scale up.” Camp BizSmart students are inspired by great companies who are scaling big ideas to make big impacts. They are changing how we address big issues going forward.  Now, that’s a really big deal. […]

Levi Kline, CampBizSmart Alum and Serial Entrepreneur’s Latest Venture: “Compliments”

“Hi, I am Levi Kline, a high school freshman at Calabasas High School. I’m probably too young to call myself a serial entrepreneur, but I have a passion for coming up with ideas for businesses – especially businesses that help solve social problems or which address important social issues. I was in third grade when I had the idea for my first company, an online platform called Clubknowit. In third grade, lunchtime was very short, and my friends and I always had trouble organizing activities and coming up with teams in the time we had. I also noticed that certain kids often got left out of these games or got […]

A Champion Mindset – What the Olympics Showcase and How Camp BizSmart Develops Champions

There are many things in life that we can’t control and that we don’t know yet. If you believe that any of us will only rise as high as our confidence level, than let me share a secret from Vince Lombardi. “All confidence is about how you approach the unknowable.” Lombardi also says, “Each of us must determine exactly how we will approach this unknowable part of life.” Many will approach it with fear and caution. Some will try to ignore it. Champions, however approach the unknowable with confidence and faith that they will find a way forward. Darrin Donnelly in his book, Think Like A Warrior, says it like […]

Menko DeRoos, CEO and Cofounder of Xicato, has been an avid supporter and advisor of Camp BizSmart for several years.  This year we asked him to provide a new challenge to our students creating a business case that would challenge them to think outside the box about how we interact and use lighting. Not only did he provide a business case for our Classic Camp BizSmart students, he also worked with our Camp BizSmart Alumni Accelerator, creating with our executive staff a hands-on makers lab to take a product design innovation case to the point of an actual prototype. All teams competed at Microsoft. Thank you Menko for your great […]
