The first place team for the July 11-22, 2016 session held at Stanford University was Safe Slice, who chose to solve the business case created by Innovation Partner, Slice, Inc. CEO, T. J.Scimone. The Safe Slice team was made up of members: Ashley Blair, CEO; Luka Angnos, CTO; Karma Samtani, CIO; Anioha Siucho, CSO/VOC; and Om Suchak, CFO.
Safe Slice is an innovative commercial meat slicer designed to prevent injuries while in use. The goal was to protect workers in the food industry from injuring themselves using sharp meat slicers. Their product used the iconic Slice ceramic blade applied in a new product that would address a real problem. The judges for the July 14 competition, Bill Joos, Bret Cameto, Paul Witkay and Michaela Kastelman, were impressed with the simple, elegant design the students applied to the commercial meat slicer. They believed that it had potential to be a game changer in the food industry,
